What Makes Akshay Kumar's 'Kesari Chapter 2' More Than Just a Film?
Akshay Kumar's Role in 'Kesari Chapter 2'
Mumbai: The much-anticipated film Kesari Chapter 2 premiered on Friday, with actor Akshay Kumar expressing that his role transcends mere performance; he embodies the spirit of an Indian.
On Instagram, Akshay shared several images from the film, which features Ananya Panday and R. Madhavan alongside him.
In his post, he wrote in Hindi: “Kahaniyaan bahut suni hongi aapne par yah ek toofaan hai. C. Shankaran Nayar ki is kahani ne mujhe jhajhkoor diya kyunki hum nahin jaante the ki Jallianwala Bagh narsanhar ke baad kisi ek vyakti ne poore British ampayar ko adalat mein ghaseet kar ghutnon par la diya tha.”
“(You may have heard many stories, but this one is a storm. C. Sankaran Nair’s tale moved me because we were unaware that after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, one individual took the entire British Empire to court and brought them to their knees.)”
“In Kesari Chapter 2, I am not just performing as an artist but representing an Indian. This film is not merely entertainment; it is an unfinished narrative, a painful remembrance, and ultimately — a quest for justice. Kesari Chapter 2 is now showing in theaters near you.”
The film, Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, is helmed by Karan Singh Tyagi and produced by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films.
This sequel to the 2019 film Kesari is based on the book The Case That Shook The Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat, focusing on C. Sankaran Nair and the tragic events of the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Featuring Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, the film was released on April 18, 2025, coinciding with the 106th anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy.
The original Kesari, led by Akshay, was directed by Anurag Singh and depicted the Battle of Saragarhi, where 21 Sikh soldiers faced off against 10,000 Pashtun tribesmen in 1897.
Prior to the film's release, Akshay and Ananya paid their respects at the Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh on April 14, honoring the martyrs.
