Pakistan's Position on Iran's Defense Rights

Islamabad: On Thursday, Pakistan announced that it has not received any requests for military aid from Iran amidst the ongoing conflict with Israel, while affirming Iran's right to self-defense.

Shafqat Ali Khan, the spokesperson for the Foreign Office, stated during a weekly briefing that Pakistan's stance on Iran is unequivocal: the nation offers complete moral support and condemns the aggression directed at Iran.

Khan further mentioned that Tehran has not sought asylum for Iranian refugees in Pakistan, which shares a border with Iran, nor has there been any request for military support.

"Iran is entitled to defend itself according to the UN Charter," Khan emphasized.

He noted that a coalition of twenty-one Muslim nations has denounced Israeli aggression against Iran in a joint statement, labeling these actions as violations of international law and the UN Charter.

The spokesperson expressed that the situation in Iran is a significant concern for Pakistan and called for an immediate cessation of Israeli attacks.

Additionally, he reiterated Pakistan's support for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict between Iran and Israel.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has been in contact with foreign ministers from Iran, Turkey, Egypt, the UAE, and the UK, warning that Israeli actions against Iran could have severe repercussions for the region and beyond.

Khan also highlighted that targeting Iranian nuclear facilities contravenes IAEA regulations and other international laws.

Moreover, he mentioned that the Pakistani Embassy in Tehran and consulates in Mashhad and Zahedan are actively aiding in the evacuation of Pakistani citizens, with approximately 3,000 individuals having been repatriated thus far.
