Exploring the Hilarious Struggles in 'One of Them Days'

A Comedic Journey of Friendship and Financial Woes
It is often said that the first day of each month brings unexpected events, and this rings true for a waitress and her artistic roommate.
Dreux (played by Keke Palmer) lives in Los Angeles with her close friend Alyssa (SZA) and Alyssa's unreliable boyfriend Keshawn (Joshua Neal). Their living conditions are far from ideal, with a crumbling ceiling and a malfunctioning air-conditioning unit, yet it's all they can afford.
Keshawn squanders the rent money, leaving Dreux and Alyssa scrambling for a solution before nightfall. To make matters worse, Keshawn is unfaithful to Alyssa, involved with Berniece (Aziza Scott).
The film One of Them Days debuted in January in the United States, achieving box office success. Following a limited release in India, it is now available for rent on platforms like BookMyShow Stream, YouTube Movies, Google Play, and Apple TV+.
Directed by Lawrence Lamont and featuring a brilliant script by Syreeta Singleton, this female buddy comedy resonates with both cultural specificity and universal themes. The comedic misadventures of Dreux and Alyssa, as they desperately seek funds to avoid eviction, are both absurdly funny and deeply rooted in the American Black experience.
Keke Palmer, known for her role in Jordan Peele’s Nope (2022), and SZA, making her acting debut, portray the hapless protagonists with perfect chemistry as they navigate the most challenging day of their lives. Their dynamic is relatable, heartfelt, and consistently entertaining.
As the friends face potential fallout in their relationship, they are joined by a quirky cast of characters. Berniece is both alluring and intimidating, while Patrick Cage plays the charming Maniac, who captivates the ever-chatty Dreux. Stand-up comedian Katt Williams makes a memorable cameo as a doomsday prophet.
A standout moment in the film features an extended scene where Dreux and Alyssa attempt to secure a loan, only to be met with disbelief due to their abysmally low credit scores, prompting laughter from the audience.
