Will TikTok's Future in the U.S. Be Extended Again? Trump Hints at Possible Deadline Delay

In a recent statement, President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of extending the deadline for TikTok's Chinese owner to divest the app. This comes after a previous order allowed TikTok to operate for an additional 75 days while negotiations for a sale to American companies were on hold. Trump expressed optimism about securing approval from China, suggesting that President Xi might ultimately agree to the extension. If this occurs, it would mark the third time the deadline has been pushed back, leaving the future of the popular video-sharing platform in the U.S. uncertain.

Will TikTok's Future in the U.S. Be Extended Again? Trump Hints at Possible Deadline Delay

TikTok's Uncertain Future

Washington: On Tuesday, President Donald Trump indicated that he might consider extending the deadline for TikTok's Chinese parent company to sell the widely-used video app.

In early April, Trump had issued an order allowing TikTok to continue operating for an additional 75 days while negotiations for a sale to American companies were stalled.

When asked by reporters aboard Air Force One if the deadline would be prolonged once more, he replied, "Probably yeah, yeah."

He added, "We probably need to secure approval from China, but I believe we can manage it. I think President Xi will ultimately give his consent."

In a previous interview with NBC, he suggested he was open to the idea of delaying the deadline again, which would mark the third extension if it occurs.
