Gavaskar's Cricketing Legacy

Sunil Gavaskar, who represented India from 1971 to 1987, is celebrated as one of the greatest batsmen in cricket history. Known for his composed presence at the crease and solid defensive technique, he faced some of the fiercest fast bowlers of his era, often without a helmet.

His remarkable resilience and discipline made him a symbol of strength in Indian cricket. Gavaskar achieved the milestone of 10,000 runs during the 1987 Ahmedabad Test against Pakistan, becoming the first player in Test cricket to reach this landmark.

With a total of 10,122 runs, he ranks as India's third-highest run-scorer in Tests, following Sachin Tendulkar (15,921) and Rahul Dravid (13,288). His record of 34 Test centuries stood for over two decades until Tendulkar surpassed it in 2005.
