RCB Captain Rajat Patidar Fined INR 24 Lakh for Code Violation in IPL 2025

Rajat Patidar Faces Heavy Fine
Rajat Patidar, the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has been penalized with a significant fine of INR 24 lakh due to a breach of the code of conduct during Match 65 of IPL 2025 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Lucknow.
Despite Jitesh Sharma taking charge as the stand-in captain during the match, Patidar is still recognized as the official captain for the season. Consequently, he is held accountable for the violation, even though he participated in the game only as a batter after returning from injury.
According to an official statement from the IPL, this incident marks RCB's second violation of the season under the tournament's code of conduct, resulting in a higher penalty. Other players in RCB's playing XI, including the Impact Player, received fines of either ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fee, whichever amount is lower.
Earlier this season, Rajasthan Royals' captain Sanju Samson also incurred a similar fine of INR 24 lakh for his team's second offence, despite Riyan Parag captaining the side at that time. The IPL mandates that the designated captain is responsible for any infractions, regardless of who leads the team on the field.
Additionally, SRH captain Pat Cummins was fined for a slow over rate. As this was his team's first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which addresses minimum over-rate violations, Cummins faced a fine of INR 12 lakh.
New IPL Rules on Suspensions
In a significant change for the 2025 season, the IPL has eliminated automatic suspensions for captains in cases of repeated violations. While financial penalties will escalate with each infraction, captains will no longer face bans from future matches due to code breaches.
This marks a shift from previous seasons, particularly IPL 2024, when Hardik Pandya was suspended and missed the Mumbai Indians' season opener due to a carryover ban. Under the new regulations, such suspensions will no longer be enforced.
