Abhinav Bindra Leads New Task Force to Revolutionize Sports Administration in India
Formation of a New Task Force
Abhinav Bindra, the gold medalist from the Beijing Olympics, has been appointed to lead a newly established task force aimed at improving sports administration and evaluating the current training programs for elite athletes in India. The sports ministry has officially announced the creation of a nine-member committee, with Bindra at the helm.
Joining him on this committee are notable figures such as Adille Sumariwalla, the former president of the Athletics Federation of India, and Rajesh Rajagopalan, the ex-CEO of the Target Olympic Podium Scheme, who is now affiliated with the ELMS Foundation.
According to the sports ministry's directive, this task force is expected to deliver a thorough report that outlines a strategic roadmap, featuring recommendations for short, medium, and long-term improvements aimed at establishing a professional and sustainable administrative framework for Indian sports. The committee is tasked with submitting its findings within 30 days of its formation.
Other members of the task force include cricketer Nilesh Kulkarni, founder of ISSM, Professor Sourav Mukherji from IIM Bangalore, Rama Shankar Yadav from IIM Rohtak, Ravneet Gill, director of AISTS, Gulshan Lal Khanna from the Association of Indian Sports Sciences, and C Dhandapani, director of SAI.
