Insights on KL Rahul's Role in the Team
During a recent discussion, Knight expressed admiration for KL Rahul, highlighting the significance of the incident in Northampton from a preparation standpoint. He stated, 'I am a big fan of Lokesh Rahul and his opening batting. His best position across all formats is at the top of the order.'
He further elaborated that while Rahul has been utilized in various roles, his experience in opening innings and scoring runs in Test matches in England is invaluable. Knight noted that the retirements of Kohli and Rohit present an opportunity for other batsmen to prove themselves.
According to him, players have the chance to showcase their skills in practice matches, with Karun Nair making a notable impression. Knight candidly mentioned, 'To be honest, Yashasvi is not in his best form right now. If I were an Indian player, selector, or fan, I would prefer to see him in better form. However, does that mean I wouldn't select him for the top order? Absolutely not; I would definitely play him alongside Rahul to open.'
He concluded by suggesting that in his opinion, Sai Sudharsan should bat at number three, followed by Shubman Gill at four, and then the lineup can progress from there. 'Sai is a very good player, and he plays late shots effectively.'
