Jasprit Bumrah: India's Key Player in the Upcoming Test Series Against England

India's Tour for the Sachin Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy

Currently, the Indian cricket team is in England for the Sachin Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, which features a series of five Test matches. The first match is scheduled for June 20. Star bowler Jasprit Bumrah will participate in only three Tests during this series, but he has the potential to be a significant challenge for the host England team.

Bumrah's past performances in England suggest he could unsettle English batsmen. In his debut match there seven years ago, he took five wickets.

Among Indian bowlers, Bumrah ranks third for the most Test wickets in England. He has played nine Test matches in the country, claiming 37 wickets at an impressive average of 26.27 across 17 innings. His best performance in a single innings is five wickets for 64 runs. In terms of overall performance in a Test match, he has taken nine wickets for 110 runs across both innings.

Only two Indian bowlers have surpassed Bumrah's wicket tally in England: Ishant Sharma leads with 48 wickets, followed by the legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev with 43 wickets.

Bumrah has a knack for excelling in England. His first Test match there in 2018 at Trent Bridge saw him take five wickets in one innings, contributing to India's victory in that match.

During the 2021 tour, the first Test between the two nations was also held at Trent Bridge, where Bumrah again took five wickets in an innings. The second match of that tour took place at Lord's, where he showcased his batting skills as well, partnering with Shami to score an unbeaten 89 runs for the last wicket, leading India to a memorable victory.
