Xavier Bartlett Praises Ricky Ponting's Coaching in IPL 2025
Bartlett Commends Ponting's Expertise
Chandigarh (Punjab) [India] - April 6: Xavier Bartlett, a right-arm seamer for Punjab Kings, expressed his admiration for head coach Ricky Ponting following the team's initial three matches in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He highlighted Ponting's extensive knowledge and composed demeanor.
Ponting joined the Punjab franchise before the 18th season of the lucrative league, having previously coached the Delhi Capitals from 2018 to 2024. Under his guidance, the Capitals reached the playoffs three times consecutively (2019-2021) and made it to the finals for the first time in 2020.
"He possesses one of the sharpest cricketing minds. His vast experience as a player and coach has greatly influenced our training. He maintains a structured approach and expects high performance from us. The intensity during our training sessions has been impressive. He remains calm and composed, which is crucial. Together with Shreyas, they create a great synergy. Playing under him has been incredible; he was my idol growing up, and having the chance to learn from him is fantastic," Bartlett shared.
Additionally, the Australian bowler praised captain Shreyas Iyer's leadership, particularly in high-pressure situations. Currently, the Punjab Kings have secured two victories out of three matches, placing them third on the points table with four points.
"Shreyas is very composed and relaxed. In the fast-paced environment of the IPL, having someone like him at the top of the bowling mark is reassuring. His extensive experience, including last year's championship win with KKR, adds to his leadership. He knows what it takes to lead a team to victory. His welcoming nature and ability to connect with younger players have been remarkable," the 26-year-old added.
Finally, Bartlett reflected on the valuable lessons learned from seasoned players like Arshdeep Singh, Marco Jansen, and Yuzvendra Chahal. He noted, "These players have significant international and IPL experience. Their meticulous preparation and dedication to training have been inspiring. Their success over the years is no coincidence; they hold themselves to high standards. I enjoy matching their energy and hope to push them as they help me improve as well," he concluded.
The Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings will face the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings next on Tuesday, April 8, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh.
