Gujarat Titans Secure Third Consecutive IPL Victory Against Sunrisers Hyderabad
Gujarat Titans Triumph Over Sunrisers Hyderabad
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], April 6: After leading his team to victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill praised Mohammed Siraj's outstanding bowling performance. He emphasized that while much attention is given to powerful hitters, it is the bowlers who ultimately secure victories for their teams.
GT continued their impressive run in IPL 2025, marking their third consecutive win, while SRH faced their fourth straight defeat at Uppal Stadium on Sunday.
During the post-match presentation, Gill remarked on Siraj's impact, stating, “Bowlers are the game-changers in this format. Many focus on big hitters, but it’s the bowlers who clinch the wins. The energy Mohammed brings while bowling and fielding is truly infectious.”
Discussing his 90-run partnership with Washington Sundar, Gill noted, “We aimed to play grounded shots, which was our strategy. Washington was ready to play against MI, but with the Impact Player rule, we had to adapt. His batting today was exceptional. We focused on executing good cricketing shots, and once we established a 30-40 run partnership, we took control of the game.”
In the match, SRH batted first after losing the toss. Their top order struggled, with Travis Head (8), Abhishek Sharma (18), and Ishan Kishan (17) contributing to a poor start, leaving the team at 50/3. A partnership of 50 runs between Nitish Kumar Reddy (31 off 34 balls) and Heinrich Klaasen (27 off 19 balls), along with a quick 22* from skipper Pat Cummins, helped SRH reach 152/8 in their 20 overs.
Prasidh Krishna (2/25) and Sai Kishore (2/24) delivered commendable bowling performances.
GT began their chase of 153 runs shakily, losing two wickets for just 16 runs. However, a remarkable 90-run partnership between Shubman Gill (61 off 43 balls) and Washington Sundar (49 off 29 balls) turned the tide in GT's favor. Sherfane Rutherford (35* off 16 balls) expertly finished the chase, leading GT to victory with 20 balls remaining and seven wickets in hand.
With this win, GT holds the second position in the points table with six points from three wins and one loss, while SRH finds themselves at the bottom after suffering their fourth consecutive defeat following a strong opening win against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
