Ahmedabad Rain Ends Gujarat Titans' IPL 2024 Journey, Kolkata Knight Riders Cement Top 2 Finish

Shreyas Iyer's KKR finished in the top 2 after rain had the last laugh in their IPL 2024 clash against GT at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday. The rain played hide and seek, but the 45,000 fans did not leave the venue hoping for the game to begin. 10:56 PM was the cut-off time for the 5-over match, and the groundsmen tried their hearts out, but at around 10:40 PM, the officials canceled the match. Titans became the third team after MI and PBKS to be kicked out of the competition. The Knights, meanwhile, won 9 of 13 games to stay at their top spot with 19 points and a net run rate of +1.428. KKR will now take part in Qualifier 1 to be held on May 21 in Ahmedabad. Earlier, the Knights sealed their playoff berth after their 18-run win over MI.

Back in 2012 and 2014, when KKR finished in the top 2, they went on to win the title. This time, they have a chance to top the table if they beat Sanju Samson's Royals in their last league game on Sunday, May 19 at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. Gautam Gambhir's return to his setup has worked wonders for him so far.

A disappointing campaign for GT
The Titans, on the other hand, are out of the race for a playoff spot. After Hardik Pandya's departure and Mohammed Shami's injury after the ODI World Cup final against Australia, GT found it difficult to get going. With a mathematical chance of making it to the next round ahead of their game against KKR, rain dashed their hopes.

Shubman Gill's men will play for glory in their last league game against SRH on May 16 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. In 2022, GT won the title in their first appearance. In 2023, they finished as runners-up after failing to beat CSK. But this season, they never got out of the blocks as Gill seemed to heat up under the pressure.
