On Sunday, Gujarat Titans achieved a remarkable victory against Delhi Capitals, thanks to the stellar performance of Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill, who formed an unbroken 210-run opening partnership in IPL 2025. Their impressive display not only led the team to chase down a target of 210 runs but also highlighted their status as the most reliable Indian opening pair in the tournament.
Gill played a pivotal role in the chase, finishing with an unbeaten score of 93. However, it was Sudharsan's explosive century, his second of the season, that truly shone, as he scored 108 runs off just 61 deliveries, earning him the Player of the Match accolade.
Sudharsan Reflects on the Victory
"There's a bit of joy when you finish games for the team. In the break we got, I was thinking on that [finishing games] a bit more," Sai Sudharsan shared during the post-match presentation.
He attributed his calmness during tense moments to a shift in mindset. After a dip in momentum during the middle overs, Sudharsan explained that their strategy was to extend the game, avoid rash shots, and seize the right opportunities.
Strategic Approach to the Game
"We wanted to take the game deep, didn't want to be desperate to take a lot of chances, have a cool enough mindset to take the game deep. And we got two or three big overs that changed the game," he added.
Sudharsan also discussed his evolving partnership with Gill, noting that together they have amassed 839 runs this season, setting a record for the most runs by an Indian opening pair in a single IPL season.
Gill's Confidence in the Chase
"Honestly, at the halfway point, I thought we gave 10 to 15 extra," Gill remarked. "When we went out to bat, the talk was to just try and play good cricket shots."
The Titans' batting coach, Parthiv Patel, also commented on the duo's approach, emphasizing their ability to play low-risk cricket while still being capable of powerful shots.
Playoff Qualification Secured
With this victory, Gujarat Titans secured their place in the playoffs, climbing to the top of the standings with nine wins out of twelve matches, showcasing a batting partnership that appears nearly invincible.
