Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 14: In an exciting finale of the 31st GD Birla Memorial Masters Inter-Club Badminton Tournament, Goregaon Sports Club (GSC) secured the championship title by defeating the host team, Bombay Gymkhana A, with a score of 2-1 in the Elite Cup Team Championship.
Aparna Popat, Mangirish Palekar, and Manoj Nachanekar showcased exceptional skills throughout the tournament, each earning double titles in this prestigious event organized by Badminton Gurukul, as reported in a recent release.
The match commenced with Sanjeev Mahajan and Bhagwan S giving GSC an early advantage by overcoming Gautam Laud and Faisal Sidique in a thrilling three-set match, finishing 21-18, 14-21, 21-19. However, the hosts leveled the score when Shailesh Daga and Ayaz Bilawala defeated Leroy D'Sa and Hemant Duggal with a score of 21-14, 21-18. The decisive moment came when Rajesh Bhanushali and Abhishek Sharma clinched the championship for GSC, winning against Aparna Popat and Bimaldeep Singh with a score of 21-13, 21-19.
In singles, top seed Manoj Nachanekar triumphed over second seed Chetan Bandarkar with a score of 22-20, 21-19 to claim the singles title, and later partnered with Rahul Bhuvad to secure victory in the doubles final. Mangirish Palekar, teaming up with Vikrant Patwardhan, won the men's doubles 45 title by defeating Gautam Laud and Sandeep Mohan 21-18, 21-17. Additionally, Palekar also claimed the 85+ doubles title alongside Deepak Jaitley, overcoming Nigel D'Sa and Rohan Radhakrishna with a score of 21-15, 21-10.
