BCCI to Organize Women's ODI World Cup and Discuss Venue Selection
BCCI's Upcoming Meeting in Kolkata
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to establish the organizing committee for the Women's ODI World Cup and will decide on the venues for the ICC event scheduled for later this year during an emergency Apex Council meeting in Kolkata on March 22.
This meeting is strategically timed just before the IPL season opener, featuring the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens.
The last Women's ODI World Cup hosted by India took place in 2013, and the specific schedule for the upcoming tournament in October is still under development.
As per the agenda obtained by a news source, there will be discussions on forming the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 and deliberations on the venues for the same.
India has reached the finals of the 50-over World Cup twice but has yet to secure a title. Harmanpreet Kaur's squad will be eager to break this ICC trophy drought on home soil.
Additionally, the Apex Council will finalize plans for the domestic season of 2025-26.
India is expected to host West Indies and South Africa during the home season, prompting members to decide on the venues for the Test series.
With new office-bearers in place, the meeting will also address the approval for changes in signatories for the BCCI's bank accounts.
BCCI to Implement Tobacco Sponsorship Ban
Earlier this month, the health ministry directed the BCCI to prohibit all forms of tobacco and alcohol advertising, including surrogate promotions, during the IPL starting March 22.
The Apex Council will discuss this directive in the upcoming meeting, focusing on sponsorships related to tobacco and cryptocurrency.
"Discussion regarding sponsorship from tobacco and crypto brands," is noted as item No. 9 on the agenda.
