NCC Cadets Trained in First Aid and Road Safety at Puri Camp

Empowering Youth for Road Safety
Puri: The State Transport Authority (STA), in collaboration with the Commerce and Transport department, organized a 'Junior Rakshak' training initiative during the ongoing NCC camp in Puri on Thursday. This program aimed to educate 550 NCC cadets from higher secondary schools in Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh districts about first aid and road safety awareness. The camp was officially opened by NCC Colonel Sudip Sinha and Puri RTO Rabin Pattnayak.
Expert trainers Amiya Bala Parida, Itishree Sundara, Subash Chandra Pradhan, and Rabindra Kumar Sahu led the sessions, emphasizing the significance of the golden hour in emergency situations and the proper techniques for administering first aid, as well as safe transportation methods for accident victims to hospitals. The cadets, now equipped with this knowledge, will serve as road safety ambassadors, committing to adhere to traffic regulations and promote awareness within their schools, families, and communities. They were also informed about the Good Samaritan Scheme, which incentivizes citizens to help accident victims with a reward of Rs 2,000 for timely assistance.
Amit Rana, an assistant motor vehicle inspector, along with ARTO Debashis Panda, participated in the training sessions, motivating the cadets to advocate for road safety. The Junior Rakshak initiative, which began last year, is gaining traction throughout the state as part of a broader campaign aimed at decreasing road fatalities. The STA is also considering technology-driven methods to keep cadets engaged and informed in their roles as advocates for road safety.
