DRDO's Participation in Paris Air Show 2025

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is set to highlight India's advancements in aerospace and defence at the upcoming Paris Air Show 2025. Announcing its participation on social media, the DRDO emphasized that it will present cutting-edge indigenous technologies, including next-generation unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), state-of-the-art avionics, and homegrown defence systems.

This initiative underscores India's commitment to self-reliance, collaboration, and strategic capabilities on an international platform. The DRDO stated, “At Paris Air Show 2025, we will showcase India’s aerospace innovation, featuring next-gen UAVs, advanced avionics, and indigenous defence systems. This is a powerful demonstration of our self-reliance and strategic capabilities globally.”

A video accompanying the announcement provided a sneak peek into the various systems and equipment that will be on display. Among the highlights is the Beyond-Visual-Range (BVR) class Air-to-Air Missile (AAM) named 'Astra', designed for deployment on fighter jets.

According to the DRDO, the Astra missile is engineered to engage and neutralize highly maneuverable supersonic aircraft, boasting all-weather operational capabilities both day and night. It is being developed in several variants to cater to specific operational needs. The ASTRA Mk-I Weapon System, which is integrated with the SU-30 Mk-I aircraft, is also being inducted into the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The video further showcased the Light Combat Aircraft (LAC) Air Force Mark 2, commonly referred to as Tejas Mk-2, an indigenous fighter jet produced by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Additionally, the DRDO will present the Weapon Locating Radar (WLR) named 'Swathi', which is primarily designed to detect enemy artillery, mortars, and rockets that could disrupt military operations, developed in collaboration with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).

Another significant system featured will be the Airborne Early Warning & Control System (AEW&C), which serves as a crucial tool for detecting and tracking hostile aircraft and UAVs. The HELINA (Helicopter-based NAG), a third-generation fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) system mounted on the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), will also be part of the exhibition. Furthermore, the video highlighted enhancements to the Dornier aircraft, known as SHYEN (Payloads for Dornier Mid-Life Upgrade), which aims to boost the operational effectiveness of the Dornier with advanced payloads. The event, taking place from June 16 to 22 at Le Bourget, France, will provide a global stage for the DRDO to showcase its innovations and promote international partnerships.
