This accolade marks the 23rd international award received by PM Modi from a foreign country, highlighting his growing prominence as a global leader and his ongoing efforts for regional peace, inclusive development, and spiritual diplomacy.
Earlier that day, PM Modi engaged in extensive discussions with President Christodoulides at the Presidential Palace, marking a historic occasion as it was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Cyprus.
The two leaders explored ways to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, security, and technology.
Described as significant by diplomatic sources from both India and Cyprus, the meeting highlighted their mutual desire to strengthen bilateral relations.
Upon his arrival, PM Modi was given a ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Palace.
During his visit, he honored Makarios III, the first President of Cyprus and a respected religious figure, by laying a floral wreath at his memorial.
India and Cyprus have enjoyed strong diplomatic ties since formal relations were established in 1962.
Cyprus has consistently supported India on crucial matters, including Kashmir, at international forums like the United Nations.
During their discussions, PM Modi and Christodoulides focused on new strategies to boost economic cooperation, enhance trade, and explore technological partnerships.
Security and regional stability were also key topics, given the changing geopolitical landscape.
Upon his arrival in Cyprus, PM Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora. Although small in number, the Indian community significantly contributes to sectors such as education, healthcare, and business in Cyprus.
