Significant Arrests Amid Border Tensions

Chandigarh: In light of rising tensions along the international border with Pakistan, Punjab Police announced the arrest of two individuals suspected of leaking sensitive military information and images related to Army cantonment areas in Amritsar. The arrests were made during a crucial counter-espionage operation.

The suspects, identified as Palak Sher Masih and Suraj Masih, were apprehended by the Amritsar Rural Police. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav shared on X that initial investigations have uncovered their connections to Pakistani intelligence agents, specifically through an individual named Harpreet Singh, also known as Pittu or Happy, who is currently incarcerated in Amritsar Central Jail. The arrests occurred on Saturday, and a case has been filed under the Official Secrets Act, with further investigations underway.

Yadav emphasized the Punjab Police's commitment to supporting the Indian Army and ensuring national security, stating that any threats to the armed forces will be met with decisive action.

In a related incident last week, the Amritsar Commissionerate successfully prevented a potential grenade attack on police facilities by arresting five members of a terror module linked to Pakistan's ISI and the gangster Jiwan Fauji, who operates from abroad.

The arrested individuals, including Naresh Kumar alias Babbu, Abhinav Bhagat alias Abhi, Ajay Kumar alias Ajju, and Sunny Kumar, along with a 17-year-old juvenile, were found in possession of a hand grenade and a homemade .32 caliber pistol with five cartridges.

DGP Yadav noted that Jiwan Fauji has been orchestrating a terror network in the border regions of Punjab, utilizing the arrested suspects who were radicalized and equipped to carry out criminal acts. The investigation revealed that these individuals were provided motorcycles and instructed to collect weapon shipments from the Ajnala sector, actively planning attacks on police establishments.
