Significant Drop in Crime Rates in Delhi for First Half of 2025

Overview of Crime Trends in Delhi
In the first half of 2025, the national capital has witnessed an 8.38% decline in overall crime rates compared to the same period last year, with a notable 10% decrease in cases of sexual assault and POCSO violations, according to data released by the Delhi Police.
The statistics reveal that from January 1 to June 30, 2025, there were approximately 10,000 fewer cases recorded under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Indian Justice Code (BNS), totaling 118,822 cases, down from 129,693 cases during the same timeframe in 2024.
The data indicates a reduction in heinous crimes such as murder, rape, robbery, and kidnapping, showing a 13.13% drop compared to 2023 and a 10.39% decrease from 2024.
Interestingly, while murder cases rose slightly from 241 last year to 250 in 2025, incidents of rape and POCSO offenses saw a nearly 10% decline.
Additionally, crimes against women, including harassment and molestation, have decreased by approximately 11% and 12.5%, respectively. The number of snatching incidents fell significantly from 3,381 cases in the first half of 2024 to 2,503 in 2025, marking a 25.97% reduction.
Similarly, theft cases dropped by 25.4%, decreasing from 4,271 to 3,186, while motor vehicle thefts saw a 5.98% decline, falling from 18,626 to 17,512. The police attribute this overall decrease to enhanced surveillance, data-driven patrolling, community engagement, and coordinated actions against repeat offenders.
