Hardik Pandya's Popularity Forces Venue Change for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Match
Venue Change Due to Fan Excitement
The overwhelming enthusiasm from fans for star all-rounder Hardik Pandya led to a significant change in the venue for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match. Originally scheduled at a lesser-known Gymkhana ground, the match between Baroda and Gujarat was relocated to the more secure Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday.
Baroda emerged victorious, winning the match by eight wickets. The decision to move the game was prompted by an unexpected surge in crowd interest and security considerations surrounding Hardik's participation.
This match marked Hardik's second competitive appearance since his return from a two-month injury hiatus. He is set to represent India in the upcoming five-match T20 series against South Africa, starting in Cuttack on December 9.
Officials noted that the fan turnout was significantly higher than anticipated, with large crowds gathering near the team hotel, practice areas, and ticket counters, far surpassing typical attendance for domestic matches.
A senior official from the organizing committee stated, "The level of fan engagement, inquiries, and crowd movement exceeded our expectations. To ensure the safety of everyone and the smooth conduct of the match, we opted to relocate it to Rajiv Gandhi Stadium."
In his recent performance, Hardik scored an impressive unbeaten 77 against Punjab, followed by a score of 10 and a wicket against Gujarat.
