Shubman Gill Reflects on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's Leadership Styles Ahead of England Tour

Leadership Transition in Indian Test Cricket

As India prepares for its upcoming tour of England, senior Test players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have announced their retirements from red-ball cricket. In light of this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Shubman Gill as the new captain for the Test team. Ahead of the five-match series, Gill has shared his insights regarding the captaincy styles of Sharma and Kohli.

Gill's Insights on Rohit Sharma

“Rohit bhai has created an environment where even if he is harsh, it doesn’t feel personal. This is a unique aspect of his leadership. He is strict, but it’s always for the benefit of the team,” Gill remarked about Rohit Sharma.

“Although he may not appear aggressive, he is quite assertive. His communication is straightforward, and he keeps players informed before, during, and after matches,” he added.

“Playing under Virat bhai, I appreciated his strategic thinking during Test matches. If a plan fails, he quickly devises another and communicates it to the bowlers,” Gill expressed regarding Kohli's approach.

India's Historical Challenge in England

India Vs England

India has toured England 19 times but has only secured victory in the Test series three times. The last win came 18 years ago under Rahul Dravid's captaincy. With this history, Gill aims to lead India to a Test series victory in England after nearly two decades.
