Weather Update from IMD

IMD Weather LIVE Updates: Today, a significant weather event is anticipated across various regions of India, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in multiple areas. The Southwest Monsoon has progressed further into additional regions of Chhattisgarh and Odisha, parts of the North Bay of Bengal, the remaining Northeastern states, and the entirety of Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal as of May 29, 2025.

The IMD has indicated that conditions are favorable for the southwest monsoon to advance into more areas of West Bengal and Bihar in the next couple of days. Additionally, a deep depression over coastal West Bengal and adjacent Bangladesh is moving slowly in a northeast direction.

Regions such as Kerala, Mahe, and Karnataka are expected to experience widespread light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h. South Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, including Puducherry and Karaikal, may face isolated instances of extremely heavy rainfall, raising alarms about possible localized flooding. Coastal Karnataka is also predicted to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with strong winds continuing throughout the day.

Northeast Region Under Rain Alert

The entire Northeast region, encompassing Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, is set to experience widespread rainfall. The IMD has issued warnings for isolated extremely heavy rainfall in Nagaland and surrounding areas, which could result in waterlogging, landslides in hilly terrains, and disruptions to travel.
