S Jaishankar Advocates for Pluralism and Creativity at Global Media Dialogue

Promoting Diversity in Global Discourse
Mumbai: On Friday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of pluralism, stating that it has historically been stifled by colonialism and the dominance of major powers. He highlighted the need to amplify voices representing diverse traditions, heritage, and ideas as part of the effort to democratize the global order.
Speaking at the Global Media Dialogue alongside Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES), Jaishankar advocated for improved mobility for creative talent to foster greater innovation.
With the rise of artificial intelligence, he warned that the irresponsible application of new technologies could become a significant concern. He stressed the importance of reducing bias, democratizing content, and prioritizing ethical considerations in this evolving landscape.
Jaishankar remarked, "The reality is that the world is fundamentally diverse, and pluralism has been historically suppressed by colonialism and the dominance of powerful nations," while addressing delegates from 60 countries.
He further stated, "In our quest to democratize the international system, it is insufficient to merely claim political and economic independence. It is crucial to ensure that our traditions, heritage, ideas, practices, and creativity are given a platform to be expressed."
The minister concluded by asserting that the world comprises numerous voices, experiences, and truths, all of which deserve the opportunity to be heard and supported.
