Plans for Indian Army Base in Dhubri to Enhance Security

Strengthening Security in Dhubri
Dhubri, June 24: On Tuesday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the government is considering the establishment of a permanent Indian Army base in Dhubri to improve security measures in this sensitive border area.
Sarma visited Dhubri to evaluate the current law and order situation following recent communal tensions caused by the alleged dumping of beef near a temple.
He led a high-level meeting at the Circuit House to review the region's peace and security strategies.
After the meeting, the Chief Minister informed the media, "We are looking into the possibility of setting up a permanent Indian Army base to enhance the security framework in this district."
Sarma assured that the law and order situation is currently stable, but the government remains vigilant to prevent any potential disturbances.
He reported that 150 individuals have been detained in connection with the recent unrest.
"Our strict approach is proving effective. We have arrested 150 individuals involved in anti-social activities. However, we will continue to be alert against communal threats," he stated.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that Mintu Ali, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the unrest, has been identified and is currently on the run. He urged Ali to surrender, warning of severe consequences if he does not.
Sarma instructed local officials to enforce regulations regarding the sale and consumption of beef strictly.
"In Dhubri, beef is available in numerous hotels. Shopkeepers must voluntarily close their establishments. If they refuse, police will take action. No beef consumption will be permitted within a five-kilometre radius of temples or Gurdwaras," he emphasized.
Addressing administrative shortcomings, Sarma pointed out that 1,460 cattle had recently crossed into Dhubri from neighboring states ahead of Bakri Eid, attributing the issue to the Animal Husbandry Department's unauthorized permissions.
"We will take action against the officials responsible for this oversight," he affirmed.
In a political critique, Sarma questioned the leadership of Congress MP Rakibul Hussain, stating that an investigation into the Nabin Bangla case is underway.
"If Rakibul Hussain were a genuine leader, he wouldn't need to confront the government. We are making strides and will soon see positive outcomes," he remarked.
This marks Sarma's second visit to Dhubri within a week, having previously toured the area on June 13 during the peak of the beef controversy.
