Virat Kohli Reflects on Test Retirement at Yuvraj Singh's Fundraiser
Kohli's Humorous Take on Retirement
Virat Kohli shared a light-hearted moment regarding his Test retirement during Yuvraj Singh's charity event in London.
Currently residing in London, Kohli made a stylish appearance at the YouWeCan cancer fundraiser after being seen at Wimbledon, dressed elegantly in a brown suit.
As the Indian team was also present, the event's host mentioned Kohli's absence from the squad following his retirement announcement prior to the England tour.
“We miss you on the field, man,” remarked presenter Gaurav Kapur.
Standing alongside cricket legends like Ravi Shastri, Chris Gayle, and Kevin Pietersen, Kohli took a moment before replying, “I just dyed my beard two days ago. You know it’s time to take a break when you’re dyeing your beard every four days.” His presence at the fundraiser was certainly a highlight.
Kohli also reflected on his relationship with Shastri, who was instrumental as head coach during Kohli's tenure leading the Test team.
“Honestly, if I hadn’t collaborated with him... the achievements in Test cricket wouldn’t have been possible. The clarity we shared is rare. It’s crucial for cricketers to advance in their careers,” Kohli stated.
“Had he not supported me as he did... those press conferences where he shielded me from criticism would have changed everything. I hold immense respect for him as he has been a significant part of my cricketing journey,” Kohli added.
Shastri reciprocated the praise, labeling Kohli as the most impactful cricketer of the past 15 years. “Winning World Cups is one thing, but his drive to elevate red-ball cricket was remarkable. Once he established his success mantra, others followed suit.
“If India is excelling in Test cricket today, especially the younger players who played under him, they owe him gratitude. World cricket should also acknowledge him. With India’s success in Test matches, financial gains followed, and the BCCI rightly benefited from it,” Shastri noted, referring to Kohli as the most successful captain in Test history.
