Pakistani Spy Arrested in Jorhat Amid Ongoing Crackdown on Anti-National Activities

Significant Arrest in Jorhat

Jorhat, June 1: In a notable development in the fight against anti-national activities, Indian armed forces apprehended a suspected Pakistani spy in the Lisubari area of Jorhat on Sunday.

The individual has been identified as Samsul Islam, a welder who has worked at the 41 Sub Area for several years.

A resident of Bilasipara in Dhubri, Islam is alleged to have been gathering intelligence on the Indian Army and relaying sensitive information to his contacts in Pakistan.

Additionally, reports suggest that Islam may be linked to various criminal activities in both Dhubri and Guwahati.

Although the Indian Army has yet to release an official statement regarding this incident, local media indicates that Islam had maintained communication with entities in Pakistan for an extended period.

In a related context, two other individuals suspected of anti-national activities were arrested in Assam, raising the total number of such arrests to 81 since the Pahalgam terror incident in April, as stated by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Sarma confirmed via social media that one suspect was taken into custody from each of the Sonitpur and Kamrup districts.

He remarked, “Eighty-one anti-nationals are now incarcerated for showing support to Pakistan… Our systems are actively monitoring anti-national content on social media and responding accordingly.”

Previously, opposition AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam was the first to be arrested on sedition charges for allegedly supporting Pakistan and its involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack.

After being granted bail, he was later detained under the National Security Act (NSA).

On May 2, Sarma had issued a warning about strict actions against individuals who chanted “Pakistan zindabad” following the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
