Extradition of Pakistani Citizen to the US

New York: A Pakistani national living in Canada has been extradited to the United States to face serious charges related to terrorism, including attempts to provide support to ISIS and a conspiracy to execute a mass shooting at a Jewish community center in Brooklyn, as announced by federal authorities.

Muhammad Shahzeb Khan was apprehended in Canada on September 4, 2024, and is accused of orchestrating a violent attack motivated by the Islamic State.

According to US officials, Khan allegedly planned to illegally enter New York from Canada to carry out a mass shooting on October 7, 2024, coinciding with the first anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed Khan's extradition via a post on social media platform X, praising the collaborative efforts that thwarted the planned attack.

"Significant news… this afternoon, Muhammad Shahzeb Khan was extradited to the United States on charges of attempting to provide material support to ISIS and committing acts of terrorism," Patel stated.

He also shared alarming details about the foiled plot, emphasizing that Khan had chosen a date of symbolic significance for his attack. "Khan allegedly intended for his attack to take place on October 7, 2024, marking one year since the Hamas attack in Israel," the post indicated.

The FBI Director commended the rapid coordination among international agencies, stating, "Thanks to the diligent work of FBI teams and our partners, these plans were uncovered and neutralized." Khan's arrest and subsequent extradition highlight the critical need for cross-border intelligence sharing in addressing terrorism threats.

Patel also pointed out the broader implications of this case, noting the increasing antisemitic threats worldwide.

"This case serves as a reminder of the persistent threat of terrorism that looms over every part of the globe, along with the alarming rise in threats against Jewish communities," he remarked.

He acknowledged the contributions of various FBI divisions in the investigation, specifically mentioning @NewYorkFBI, @FBIChicago, and @FBILosAngeles for their roles in ensuring the suspect faced justice in the US.

Khan is currently in US custody and is anticipated to stand trial in a federal court in New York, with further details regarding the court proceedings expected soon.
