Islamabad: Reports indicate that a 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck Pakistan's Balochistan province on Sunday, resulting in injuries to at least three individuals.

The earthquake's epicenter was identified near the Musa Khel district, occurring at a depth of 28 kilometers, as per the country's Earthquake Monitoring Centre, according to the Express Tribune.

The tremor caused the destruction of two homes, while three others suffered partial damage.

Rescue personnel reported that three people were injured due to the collapse of these structures.

In response, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has commenced relief efforts in the impacted region, as stated by a spokesperson.

PDMA teams are currently evaluating the extent of the damage and are providing tents to those who have been displaced by the earthquake.

Earlier, a separate 5.3 magnitude quake was recorded near Barkhan city in the province, as reported by Geo News.

This tremor occurred at 3:30 AM local time, with its epicenter located roughly 60 kilometers north-northeast of Barkhan, according to the United States Geological Survey.

Fortunately, no injuries or structural damage were reported from this earlier quake.

Experts note that Pakistan is situated on three major tectonic plates—the Arabian, Euro-Asian, and Indian—making it prone to seismic activity.
