New Regulations to Strengthen Military Unity and Command

The Ministry of Defence has introduced new guidelines under the Inter-Services Organization (Command, Control, and Discipline) Act of 2023, aimed at fostering greater unity and command efficiency within the armed forces. These regulations, which were notified through a gazette announcement, will come into effect on May 27. This significant initiative is designed to enhance the effective command, control, and operational efficiency of Inter-Services Organizations (ISOs), thereby reinforcing cohesion among the military branches.


 


This legislation was passed by both houses of Parliament during the 2023 monsoon session and received presidential assent on August 15, 2023. According to the gazette notification dated May 8, 2024, the Act will be effective from May 10, 2024. It grants the Commander-in-Chief and Officer-in-Command of ISOs the authority to maintain command and control over the personnel serving under them, ensuring effective discipline and administration within the organizations. This is achieved without altering the unique service conditions applicable to each branch of the armed forces.
