Investigation Launched into the Case of Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam

Bhopal, June 8: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has proactively stepped in following alarming reports regarding the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi and the mysterious disappearance of his wife, Sonam, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya.

Concerns have escalated amid growing fears of human trafficking to Bangladesh, especially after blood-stained clothing was found and witnesses reported seeing the couple with unknown individuals.

Vijaya Rahatkar, the Chairperson, has formally requested the Director General of Police in Meghalaya to enhance search efforts using advanced technologies such as drone surveillance, search dogs, and specialized investigative teams.

She emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation into all potential leads, demanding a detailed report within three days.

“Recent evidence, including blood-stained garments and eyewitness accounts of the couple with unidentified men, suggests serious foul play,” the Commission stated on social media.

In parallel, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has reached out to the Union Home Ministry, advocating for the case to be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Yadav has also urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to initiate a CBI inquiry into the matter.

However, the Meghalaya government has currently dismissed the idea of a CBI investigation. Paul Lyngdoh, the state's Tourism Minister, expressed support for the local police and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) assigned to the case, stating that a CBI probe would only be considered if the current investigation fails.

“We will not shield any criminal elements, whether local or external,” he asserted.

On Saturday, a new eyewitness account emerged, marking a crucial turn in the investigation. Albert Pde, a local guide from Mawlakhiat village, reported seeing Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi with three unidentified men shortly before Raja was discovered dead and Sonam went missing.

As the police continue their inquiries, including exploring potential links to human trafficking or cross-border activities, the enigma surrounding Sonam’s disappearance remains unresolved.
