Naga Bridge Initiative Launched

Kohima, June 26: A coalition of 28 Naga tribal organizations and 12 political factions in Nagaland has introduced a new initiative called "Naga Bridge" to promote unity among the groups.

This initiative aims to embark on a collective path towards reconciliation, dialogue, and a shared future for the Naga people. The launch occurred during a recent convergence meeting at Medziphema, where representatives from the apex bodies of the 28 Naga Tribes, the 12 Naga Political Groups (NPGs), and the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) gathered.

As stated by the FNR on Wednesday, this "historic convergence" was characterized by an atmosphere of openness and humility, focusing on the advancement of the Naga community.

The forum emphasized that the symbolic bridge is not just a metaphor but is deeply rooted in the historical and political rights of the Naga people.

These rights are viewed as living affirmations of the community's ongoing quest for identity, dignity, and self-determination, according to the FNR.

During the meeting, three significant resolutions were adopted to encourage inclusive progress.

All NPGs were invited to join the upcoming assembly, which is seen as a crucial opportunity to overcome past divisions and unite all parties on a single platform for coordinated dialogue.

Additionally, all Tribal Hohos, irrespective of their regional or organizational affiliations, were called upon to provide moral and cultural support to achieve shared Naga goals while honoring each community's distinct identity and concerns.

The FNR noted that the NPGs expressed the importance of transitioning from competition to collaboration, suggesting the establishment of an "inclusive common table" to address differences with integrity and mutual trust.

Concerns regarding ongoing polarization were also raised by the Tribal Hohos, who urged all factions to transcend divisive tendencies.

Established in 2008, the FNR is a civil society initiative dedicated to promoting unity, healing, and peace among the Naga people. It has been instrumental in facilitating discussions regarding the Naga political struggle among various NPGs, tribal organizations, and other stakeholders.
