Madhya Pradesh CM Calls for CBI Investigation into Missing Couple Case

Urgent Call for CBI Inquiry
On Saturday, Mohan Yadav, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to initiate a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry concerning the case of an Indore couple, Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam, who went missing in Shillong, Meghalaya last month. Tragically, Raja was later discovered deceased, while Sonam remains unaccounted for.
Support for the Family
In a post on social media, the Chief Minister expressed, "Madhya Pradesh stands with Sonam Raghuvanshi's family during this difficult time. I have conferred with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, and senior police officials from Madhya Pradesh are in ongoing communication with their counterparts in Meghalaya. I have urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to authorize a CBI investigation into this matter. We are making every effort to ensure Sonam Raghuvanshi's safe return."
Family's Plea to the Prime Minister
This plea follows a letter sent by Raja Raghuvanshi's family to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting a CBI investigation into the case. Raja's remains were found in a gorge in Cherrapunji, Meghalaya, prompting the family's urgent appeal.
Details of the Case
The couple went missing during their honeymoon in the northeastern state, with family members stating they were last seen on May 23. Raja's remains were recovered on June 2, while Sonam's whereabouts remain unknown, and search efforts are ongoing. The last communication the couple had with their family was on the afternoon of May 23, after which their phones were turned off.
Family's Concerns
Vipul Raghuvanshi, Raja's brother, shared with the media, "We have submitted a letter to the Prime Minister requesting a CBI inquiry. We hope both the PM and the Chief Minister will support us, as a CBI investigation could provide justice for Raja and aid in locating Sonam. We are concerned that the Meghalaya police may not deliver justice in this case."
Response from Meghalaya's Chief Minister
Meghalaya's Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, expressed his condolences, labeling the incident as deeply unfortunate. He assured that all necessary measures would be taken to bring those responsible to justice.
