Insights from Akash Mishra
Interview Highlights
Who inspired you in football, and how did they influence your game?
- As a centre-back, I drew significant inspiration from Sergio Ramos, particularly regarding his fitness, leadership, and aggressive style on the field.
- Transitioning to a full-back, I studied players like Alphonso Davies and Marcelo, analyzing their overlapping runs and defensive recoveries, which helped me adapt my game.
- While many fans idolize Sunil Chhetri, my personal hero has always been Anwar Ali Jr. I admired his skills during the U-17 World Cup and was thrilled to play alongside him later.
Returning to Training After Injury
How does it feel to be back in training after a long absence?
- Words can't express my excitement. After being sidelined for nearly a year and a half, I'm back in training, although the ISL hasn't resumed yet. Currently, I'm in Delhi, training with fellow players.
- Staying motivated while training alone at home was tough. In Delhi, I can focus on drills and fitness, and I actively seek weekend matches. After such a long break, I crave to play every day and eagerly await updates from ISL and Mumbai City FC.
Recovery Journey
Can you describe your recovery process?
- I was fortunate to stay with the club during my initial recovery. Mumbai City FC offers excellent facilities and medical support, which helped me transition from medical care to strength training.
- Just as I was ready to resume football-specific training, the season concluded, making it challenging to continue my recovery alone. I needed in-person support from physios to address any issues.
- That's why I returned to Delhi, where I could access regular physiotherapy and training sessions, which are crucial for my recovery.
Looking Ahead
What are your thoughts on last season and your role in the team's future?
- While last season was disappointing, it’s important to recognize the numerous changes within the team. The integration of new foreign players took time.
- Statistically, we performed better in possession and goals conceded compared to the previous season, but injuries to key players affected our momentum.
- Despite the challenges, the unity within Mumbai City FC remains strong. We had a productive team meeting to align our goals for the upcoming season, and now we await the green light to start preparations.
Dream Match and Toughest Opponent
If you could play anywhere in the world, where would it be?
- My dream is to play at Santiago Bernabéu, home of Real Madrid, inspired by Sergio Ramos. While Old Trafford is iconic, the new Bernabéu has a unique charm.
Who has been your toughest opponent?
- I've faced many international players, but domestically, Manvir Singh from ATK Mohun Bagan and Rahul KP from Odisha FC have been particularly challenging due to their strength and speed.
Pre-Match Rituals and Food Preferences
Do you have any pre-match rituals?
- I avoid strict rituals to prevent mental pressure. However, I do step onto the pitch with my left foot and say a short prayer before games.
Which city do you prefer for food?
While I enjoy living in Mumbai, I have to say Delhi wins when it comes to food. I miss North Indian dishes like chole bhature, but I’m slowly discovering great spots in Mumbai too.
