JNU Suspends Agreement with Turkey's Inonu University Over Security Concerns

JNU's Decision Amid Rising Tensions
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has decided to terminate its memorandum of understanding with Turkey's Inonu University, citing concerns related to national security. This decision comes in light of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly due to Turkey's support for Pakistan.
In a tweet, JNU announced, "Due to National Security considerations, the MoU between JNU and Inonu University, Turkey stands suspended until further notice."

This announcement coincided with the Indian government's temporary suspension of the Twitter accounts belonging to the Turkish news outlet, TRT World, due to its dissemination of misinformation about India. This action reflects a growing sentiment in India advocating for a boycott of Turkish goods and services.
Turkey has faced backlash for its support of Pakistan following India's Operation Sindoor, which was launched in response to a terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians. The situation intensified with reports of Pakistan using a drone, allegedly of Turkish origin, against Indian targets. Following four days of intense military activity, India and Pakistan reached an agreement on May 10 to halt military movements along the border. The ongoing support from Ankara for Islamabad is expected to impact India's trade relations with Turkey, especially in light of India's air strikes on terror camps in Pakistan.
