Gill Surpasses Dravid's Record

London [UK], July 14: Test captain Shubman Gill has eclipsed the long-held record of 602 runs set by former batting legend Rahul Dravid during India's 2002 tour of England. This achievement comes despite a disappointing performance in the final session of the fourth day of the third Test at Lord's.

Unlike his remarkable innings in Leeds and Birmingham, Gill struggled and was dismissed for just six runs by Brydon Carse's impressive delivery. Nevertheless, he has now accumulated 607 runs across three Tests, boasting an impressive average of 101.17, which includes three remarkable centuries.

With two Tests remaining in the series, Gill is on track to potentially reach the milestone of 1,000 runs. During India's chase of a 193-run target, the team found itself in a precarious position at 41/2, placing additional pressure on Gill to form a partnership with KL Rahul.

However, Carse's delivery proved too challenging, leading to Gill's dismissal and leaving India at 53/3. The ball sharply angled in, catching Gill in front of the middle stump. After consulting with Rahul, Gill opted to review the decision, but the replay confirmed the ball had struck his knee roll after beating the inside edge.

Following Gill's exit, Akash Deep was sent in as a nightwatchman to navigate the final moments of the day. He managed to defend against 10 deliveries, but tensions rose as England's captain Ben Stokes took advantage, dismantling the off-stump and leaving India in a precarious position at 58/4, still needing 135 runs for victory.
