(Fatehabad News) Fatehabad. Under the guidance of District Legal Services Authority Chairperson and District and Sessions Judge Deepak Aggarwal, a Jail Lok Adalat was conducted at Central Jail 2 in Hisar, presided over by Gayatri, the Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority and Chief Judicial Magistrate.

During the session, two pending cases from various courts were reviewed, leading to the release of one inmate. The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Gayatri noted that the Jail Lok Adalat is held monthly, allowing for the resolution of cases directly within the district jail.

Objective: Accelerating Justice for Undertrial Prisoners

The primary goal of the Jail Lok Adalat is to expedite justice for undertrial prisoners and provide legal relief in specific categories of cases. Since Fatehabad does not have its own jail, Central Jail 2 in Hisar serves as a correctional facility for both Fatehabad and Hisar districts.

CJM Gayatri mentioned that during the Lok Adalat, two cases were reviewed, resulting in the release of one accused. This individual was an undertrial prisoner associated with FIR number 387/2022, registered under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code at the City Tohana police station. The Jail Lok Adalat serves as an effective judicial platform for resolving minor offenses and cases that can be settled amicably.

Strengthening Public Trust in the Judicial System

She emphasized that the Jail Lok Adalat is a significant initiative aimed at promoting legal aid, ensuring timely justice, and reinforcing public trust in the judicial system. This initiative plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation of released prisoners and their reintegration into society. It underscores the commitment of the District Legal Services Authority to ensure justice for all, particularly for those who cannot afford legal representation.

She added that the DLSA upholds the principles of fairness and justice, contributing to the vision of the Haryana State Legal Services Authority in promoting an equitable legal system.

Inquiry into Conditions of Undertrial Female Prisoners

The CJM conducted an unannounced inspection of the district jail, during which she inquired about the conditions of undertrial female prisoners. She sought information regarding the facilities provided to them, and no verbal complaints were reported. Additionally, the jail premises were inspected and found to be clean.

CJM Gayatri informed that legal assistance and information can be obtained by contacting the District Legal Services Authority helpline at 01667-231174 or the toll-free number 1800-180-2057, available on all working days from 9:30 AM to 5 PM.
