IndiGo Expands Airbus A350 Fleet with Additional Orders

IndiGo has announced a significant expansion of its fleet by placing an order for an additional 30 Airbus A350 aircraft, building on its previous commitments. With deliveries expected to start in 2027, IndiGo aims to solidify its position in the aviation sector and support the Indian Government's vision for aviation leadership. IndiGo's New Aircraft Orders

On Sunday, IndiGo revealed its decision to order an additional 30 Airbus A350 aircraft, complementing the existing order of 30 units with the French manufacturer. During a press conference, IndiGo's CEO, Pieter Elbers, announced that deliveries for these new aircraft are set to commence in 2027.

Elbers highlighted that last year, IndiGo had initially signed a contract with Airbus for 30 A350-900s, which included 30 firm orders and options for 70 more. He confirmed the intention to convert 30 of those options into firm orders, stating, "We will sign a Memorandum of Understanding for that right here, right now," as he finalized the agreement with Airbus.

In April 2024, IndiGo had already placed an order for 30 A350 aircraft, with the option to acquire an additional 70 in the future. The airline currently has over 900 aircraft on order, with deliveries scheduled over the coming years. Notably, in June 2023, IndiGo made history by placing the largest single aircraft order by any airline, securing 500 aircraft from Airbus. This has resulted in an outstanding order book of nearly 1,000 A320 Family aircraft, which are expected to be delivered well into the next decade.

These new orders are set to significantly enhance the strategic partnership between IndiGo and Airbus, marking a new level of collaboration in terms of scale and scope. With its current fleet and the nearly 1,000 A320 Family aircraft still pending delivery, IndiGo is strategically positioned to expand its extensive network and contribute to the Indian Government's vision of establishing the country as a leader in aviation.
