Indigo Flight Faces Adverse Weather Conditions

On Wednesday, an Indigo flight carrying over 220 passengers from Delhi to Srinagar encountered severe weather, prompting the pilot to declare an emergency to air traffic control and safely land the aircraft. Officials confirmed the incident.

The flight was forced to make an emergency landing due to a heavy storm, which included five leaders from the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi revealed on social media that the TMC leaders aboard were Nadimul Haque, Sagarika Ghosh, Derek O'Brien, Mamata Thakur, and Manas Bhuiyan. She noted that all five leaders were unharmed and praised the pilot for maintaining calm and ensuring the safety of everyone on board despite the storm.


Passengers Seen Praying Amid Turbulence


Videos circulating on social media captured the tense moments, showing anxious passengers praying as the plane shook.


One passenger reported that the aircraft's nose had sustained damage. An official from the Indian Airports Authority stated, "The Indigo flight 6E2142 from Delhi to Srinagar faced adverse weather conditions (hailstorm). The pilot informed ATC SXR (Srinagar) of the emergency situation."


Flight Safely Lands in Srinagar


The flight landed safely in Srinagar at approximately 6:30 PM. The official confirmed, "All crew members and 227 passengers are safe. The airline has declared the flight as AOG (Aircraft on Ground)." AOG indicates that the aircraft is grounded due to technical issues and cannot fly at the moment.

Damage Reported on Aircraft's Nose and Right Side


Owais Maqbool Hakim posted on social media, "I was on the flight... it felt like a near-death experience... the nose of the aircraft was damaged." He further claimed, "The front and right side of the plane were damaged... we couldn't see much because military police were present."


Indigo Flight 6E2142 Encounters Sudden Hailstorm


According to reports from Delhi, the airline stated, "Indigo flight 6E2142 from Delhi to Srinagar encountered a sudden hailstorm en route. The flight and crew followed established protocols and landed safely in Srinagar." After the aircraft's arrival, the airport team attended to the passengers. Indigo confirmed that necessary inspections and maintenance would be conducted.
