Delhi University Launches Admission Process for 2025-26 Academic Year

Commencement of Admissions at Delhi University
The University of Delhi (DU) has officially initiated its admission process for the 2025-26 academic year by unveiling its Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal on Tuesday. The portal was inaugurated by DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh during a press conference held at the university campus. This marks the beginning of admissions for various programs, including undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), five-year integrated law, B.Tech, Ph.D. courses, and offerings from the School of Open Learning (SOL).
New Courses and Admission Guidelines
In conjunction with the launch, the university has published its 'Bulletin of Information,' which outlines eligibility criteria and admission procedures. Additionally, DU has introduced two new postgraduate programs: MA in Hindi Journalism and MA in Tourism Management. Prof. Singh also mentioned that a new MA Journalism program under the English Department is set to be launched soon.
Innovations in the Admission Process
To enhance accessibility, each PG course will now reserve a seat for applicants who are single girl children. The Vice Chancellor emphasized the technical improvements made to the UG portal, including a new 'auto-accept' feature designed to facilitate seat allocation. This innovation aims to prevent students from losing their seats due to delays or misunderstandings. Admissions for NCWEB will begin soon and will be determined based on Class 12 merit scores.
Diversity and Registration Statistics
Prof. Singh highlighted that the CUET system has significantly increased campus diversity by attracting applications from smaller towns and various state boards. The academic session at DU is scheduled to commence on August 1, 2025. So far, the university has recorded 53,609 registrations across 82 PG programs, with a total of 13,432 seats available, including those for NCWEB. Among the applicants, 23,117 are male, 30,490 are female, and two identify as transgender.
Popular Programs and Admission Phases
The LLB program has garnered the highest number of applications, totaling 9,270, followed by MA Political Science with 4,996 applications. Notably, 1,131 candidates have applied under the single girl child quota, while 90 have applied under the orphan category. Dean of Admissions, Prof. Haneet Gandhi, stated that the UG admission process will occur in two phases, with the second phase starting after the CUET results are announced.
Course Offerings and Eligibility Updates
DU provides 79 UG programs across 69 colleges, with a total of 71,624 seats available. Recent changes in CUET subject lists have led to updates in DU's eligibility criteria. Most courses now permit dual eligibility combinations, and the requirement for a minimum score of 30% in CUET languages for BSc (Hons) has been eliminated. The university offers B.Tech courses in Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.
Admissions Based on JEE Scores
Admissions for B.Tech programs will be based on JEE (Main) scores. Currently, 6,030 candidates have registered, including 4,349 boys and 1,681 girls. Among them, 195 girls have applied under the single girl child quota, and four candidates have applied under the orphan category. SOL Director Prof. Payal Mago announced that PG admissions will rely on CUET scores, with exceptions for MBA, BLISc, MLISc, and PGDADLM programs.
Support for Diverse Applicants
The School of Open Learning will also accept students under the sports category and provide financial assistance for PwBD, orphans, EWS, and other groups. Medal-winning athletes at national or international levels will be eligible for fee waivers. To assist applicants, DU has established nine telephone helplines and email/chatbot support for admission inquiries. Additionally, SOL will operate two help centers starting June 22 to guide applicants through the admission process.
