Shimla: Kiran Negi, the widow of the late Chief Engineer of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL), Vimal Negi, has expressed her apprehensions regarding the recent legal actions taken by IPS officer Sanjeev Gandhi, who is currently on medical leave.
In a discussion with a digital media platform, Kiran Negi raised concerns about Sanjeev Gandhi's choice to approach the Himachal Pradesh High Court while on leave, questioning, "If he is on medical leave, why is he persistently engaging with the high court?"
Kiran Negi highlighted that her family has fully cooperated with the ongoing investigation, providing all necessary evidence, including laptops and other materials. She voiced her frustration over the lack of progress in the investigation over the past two months, asserting that the police had sufficient time and resources to conduct a comprehensive inquiry.
Furthermore, Kiran Negi suggested that Sanjeev Gandhi's actions might be influenced by unidentified individuals, indicating that such legal maneuvers would be challenging without external support. The case took a pivotal turn when the Himachal Pradesh High Court transferred the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on May 23, following a petition from Kiran Negi. The court expressed concerns regarding the impartiality of the special investigation team (SIT) led by Sanjeev Gandhi, citing significant lapses in the initial investigation, including the alleged mishandling of crucial evidence.
In response, Sanjeev Gandhi filed a leave petition in his personal capacity, contesting the high court's decision to transfer the case to the CBI. He has called for a court-monitored investigation, expressing skepticism about the CBI's neutrality. His actions have faced criticism from various parties, including Kiran Negi and her family, who perceive them as attempts to obstruct the investigation.
Surender Negi, the brother of Vimal Negi, echoed Kiran Negi's sentiments, emphasizing the family's wish for a transparent and unbiased investigation. He underscored the necessity of focusing on uncovering the truth surrounding Vimal's death rather than engaging in legal disputes that could impede the process.
