Chaos Erupts in Delhi Municipal Corporation Meeting Over Budget Presentation
Intense Disruption During Budget Session
Delhi MCD News (Media House), New Delhi. The session of the Delhi Municipal Corporation witnessed significant turmoil as council members from both the ruling and opposition parties clashed. BJP councilors attempted to obstruct the budget presentation, leading to physical confrontations and the tearing of budget copies. During the budget approval process, both BJP and Congress members created a ruckus in the assembly. At the conclusion of the budget formalities, BJP councilors climbed onto the mayor's podium, prompting the commissioner to exit the chamber. Despite the chaos, the budget was eventually passed, and the mayor suspended the meeting for ten minutes due to the ongoing disturbances.
Budget Presentation Amidst Opposition
Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councilor Mukesh Goyal managed to complete the budget formalities while surrounded by his party members. He requested the mayor to consider his budget speech as read, which the mayor accepted. Meanwhile, BJP councilors attempted to disrupt the proceedings by pushing against AAP members, but they were prevented from advancing.
Earlier, BJP councilors had broken the mayor's microphone, forcing him to use another to conduct the session. During the uproar, BJP members threw torn budget copies into the air, leading to loud slogans exchanged between the BJP and AAP councilors.
Previous Incidents of Disruption
This is not the first instance of disruption; on Monday, BJP councilors had similarly caused chaos by breaking the mayor's microphone and forcing the suspension of the house proceedings. Once again on Wednesday, they repeated their actions, further interrupting the assembly's activities.
