Cameron Green Set for Competitive Return After Surgery Ahead of World Test Championship

Cameron Green's Comeback Journey
Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is gearing up to return to competitive cricket following a surgical procedure he underwent prior to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He is slated to participate in the 2025 World Test Championship final against South Africa, which will take place at the iconic Lord's Cricket Stadium in England. In a recent interview with 7Cricket, Green shared that Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah reached out to him just before his surgery.
"Jasprit Bumrah reached out the night before I was getting surgery. He was in the middle of a Test match in India. Just a few things like that is really special. To get someone like him to reach out and then to watch him during the summer, to see how good he is obviously post-surgery, filled me with a lot of confidence."
Green faced a unique medical issue that necessitated surgery, causing him to miss the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Sri Lanka series, the Champions Trophy, and the 2025 Indian Premier League. He and Bumrah have been friends since their time together at the Mumbai Indians in 2023, although Bumrah had to sit out that season due to his own back surgery.
Green's Recovery and Training
Before opting for surgery, Green consulted with fellow players Ben Dwarshuis and Jason Behrendorff, who encouraged him to proceed with the operation. He remarked,
"I spoke to Ben Dwarshuis, and Jason Behrendorff, who I'm very close to in WA. And they couldn't speak any higher about getting it. Both of them said they wished they got it earlier. I think that's obviously really reassuring. As soon as I decided to get it, I knew it was the right thing to do."
Green confirmed that he is now fit and returned to the gym within two weeks post-surgery, stating,
"At the two-week mark after surgery, I was in the gym moving around. It was incredible."
Australia is set to defend their title in the World Test Championship final against South Africa, commencing on June 11, and Green is eager to rejoin the squad.
