Court Ruling in Darbhanga

On Friday, a court in Darbhanga district, Bihar, sentenced Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Misrilal Yadav and his associate to three months in prison for a 2019 assault case.

The additional district and sessions judge of the special MP/MLA court, Suman Kumar Diwakar, dismissed Yadav's plea for relief and ordered immediate incarceration.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Renu Jha informed reporters that Yadav had filed an appeal against the court's decision, which had previously imposed a three-month jail term and a fine of ₹500 in February.

The next hearing for the case is scheduled for May 27. Both Yadav and his associate, Suresh Yadav, have been sent to jail and fined ₹500 each.

The special judge and additional chief judicial magistrate, Karuna Nidhi Prasad Arya, had sentenced both men to three months in prison in February 2025 for injuring a person named Umesh Mishra on January 29, 2019.

Speaking to reporters while being taken to jail, Yadav stated, 'I had appealed against the February order of the MP/MLA court, which was dismissed today. I respect the court's decision.' In his complaint, Mishra alleged that the legislator and his associates attacked him outside his residence.
