Amit Shah's Upcoming Visit to Jammu and Kashmir

According to a senior leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir on May 29 and 30 to assess the security situation and meet with individuals affected by recent Pakistani shelling. This visit has now been confirmed. Amit Shah will arrive in Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow evening. During his trip, he will evaluate the security landscape following Operation Sindoor and visit border areas such as Poonch and Nowshera to meet with those impacted. He may also chair a unified command meeting.

Significance of the Visit

This marks Amit Shah's first visit to the region since Operation Sindoor, which was conducted by the Indian Air Force on April 22 as a retaliation for the Pahalgam attack that resulted in the deaths of 25 tourists and a local resident. Shah had visited Kashmir on the same evening of the attack and went to Baisaran the following day. Reports indicate that he will review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and visit the border district of Poonch, which has suffered from Pakistani shelling that claimed 14 lives and caused property damage.

High-Level Meeting in Jammu

On the evening of May 29, the Home Minister will lead a high-level meeting in Jammu. This meeting will include Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, along with senior officials from the army, paramilitary forces, Jammu and Kashmir police, civil administration, and intelligence agencies. Discussions will focus on security arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra, scheduled from July 3 to August 9, especially in light of the Pahalgam attack, which has prompted heightened security measures for this year's pilgrims. The meeting will also address issues related to infiltration, anti-terrorism operations, and security measures implemented since the last meeting.
