Abhishek Sharma Reflects on Tense Moment with Digvesh Rathi in IPL 2025

Abhishek Sharma Discusses On-Field Incident with Digvesh Rathi
During the IPL 2025 match on Monday, Sunrisers Hyderabad's opener Abhishek Sharma shared his thoughts on the confrontation he had with Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi. The incident occurred after Abhishek was dismissed in the eighth over while trying to hit Rathi's delivery but lost his footing.
Following the wicket, Rathi celebrated with his signature 'notebook celebration' and directed a gesture towards the pavilion, which led to a heated exchange between the two players.
The umpires stepped in to diffuse the situation as the players exchanged words, but they reconciled after the match with a handshake. Abhishek later elaborated on his strategy during the chase:
“I spoke to him after the game and everything is fine now. If we had batted first, my approach might have been different, but while chasing such a target, we had a clear plan… Just express myself and play freely,” he mentioned during the post-match presentation.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Triumphs Over Lucknow Super Giants
The altercation between Abhishek and Rathi was just one of the many narratives in a match that ultimately determined the fate of the Lucknow Super Giants this season. Despite a strong opening partnership of 115 runs from Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram, LSG faltered in the final overs, finishing with a score of 205/7.
Sunrisers Hyderabad successfully chased down the target, with Abhishek Sharma scoring 59 runs and Heinrich Klaasen contributing 47 runs, leading the team to a total of 206/4 in just 18.5 overs. Although Digvesh Rathi performed well with figures of 2/37, it was insufficient to prevent SRH from securing a six-wicket victory.
With this loss, Lucknow Super Giants have been officially knocked out of the playoff race. They needed to win all their remaining matches to keep their hopes alive but currently hold five victories out of twelve games.
This outcome leaves the Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals as the last teams vying for the final playoff position in IPL 2025. The Mumbai Indians are in fourth place with seven wins, while the Delhi Capitals sit in fifth with six wins and a total of 13 points.
