Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India] - June 27: Following his impressive performance at the Asian Athletics Championship 2025 held in Gumi, South Korea, Olympian Avinash Sable is now setting his sights on the upcoming World Championship scheduled for September this year.

In an interview at the newly inaugurated Sports Authority of India (SAI) center in Bengaluru, Sable shared his thoughts. He mentioned, “It has been about 7-8 months since I took a break after the Olympics. I have concentrated on aspects that I believed would enhance my performance in the Olympics. Currently, my focus is on preparing for the World Championships in September. I have already participated in a few competitions this season and am now aiming to reach my peak speed for the World Championships.”

During the Asian Athletics Championships 2025, Sable clinched the gold medal in the men's 3000 m steeplechase, while Jyothi Yarraji won gold in the women's 100 m hurdles. Additionally, the Indian women's team successfully defended their title in the 4x400m relay, as reported by Olympics.com.

Having previously won a silver medal at the Asian Athletics Championships in 2019, Sable achieved gold this time with a season-best time of 8:20.92. He outperformed Japan's Yutaro Niinae (8:24.41) and Qatar's Zakaria Elahlaami (8:27.12) to secure his victory.

As the reigning Asian Games champion, Sable has made history by becoming the first Indian to win gold in the men's 3000 m steeplechase at the Asian Athletics Championships in 36 years, following in the footsteps of Arjuna Award winner Deena Ram, who achieved this feat in 1989.

Jyothi Yarraji also made headlines by defending her title in the women's 100m hurdles, setting a new championship record with a time of 12.96 seconds. Japan's Yumi Tanaka and China's Wu Yanni finished second and third, clocking times of 13.07 seconds (0.061) and 13.07 seconds (0.068), respectively.
