Jeet Ganguly Reflects on the Creation of 'Hamari Adhuri Kahani' After a Decade

A Musical Gift from Above
Jeet Ganguly, known for his collaboration with Pritam, recently shared his thoughts on the title track of 'Hamari Adhuri Kahani,' which celebrates its tenth anniversary on June 12. He expressed that some songs possess a unique essence that feels as if they are bestowed upon the composer. 'As a composer, I believe we don’t create; it’s a divine gift. While one can learn to play instruments like the guitar or piano, the art of composition is innate,' he remarked, attributing the song's creation to a higher power.
Describing the song's inception, Jeet recounted, 'While Mahesh Bhatt was narrating the story of 'Hamari Adhuri Kahani,' I held my guitar and felt the raga emerge. Bhatt Sahab was curious about the raga, and the emotional response it evoked was palpable. However, I was anxious as this was the song's concluding segment. After returning home from the music session, I struggled to find the right way to start the tune. Surprisingly, the raga came to me in a dream that night.'
He continued, 'The initial lines of the raga appeared to me while I was asleep, without any instruments at hand. I woke my wife to ask for my mobile to record it, despite her confusion about recording at such an hour. I captured the raga, and it was well-received. The song comprises three distinct parts, with the first part being the last, which added to my stress. I cherish the moments at shows when the audience sings along; it feels like returning home. 'Hamari Adhuri Kahani' is a film and song that has received immense love and blessings over the years. As we mark this milestone, I pray for the strength to create even more beautiful melodies.'
