Launch of Himachal's First Pahadi Dictionary to Preserve Indigenous Culture

Historic Launch of Pahadi Dictionary
Shimla:
In a groundbreaking effort to safeguard and promote the cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh, the HIM Welfare Organisation, in partnership with HIM TV Media, has unveiled the first-ever Pahadi dictionary. This significant initiative not only benefits Himachal Pradesh but also enriches the wider 'Pahari' cultural framework throughout India.
The Pahadi dictionary is designed to facilitate the learning of the Pahadi language for everyone, including native speakers and those curious about regional dialects. It translates common terms from Hindi and English into various local Pahadi dialects. Recognizing the linguistic diversity across districts in Himachal Pradesh, the dictionary will feature synonyms and regional variations to cater to this richness.
During the launch event, Dr. Naresh Kumar Koundal, the visionary behind the Pahadi Himachali Dictionary project, expressed, “Our mission is to uphold Himachal's cultural identity by simplifying the learning and understanding of the Pahadi language. Given the numerous dialects evolving in different districts and villages, we are incorporating synonymous terms to promote inclusivity.”
This dictionary is anticipated to be an essential cultural and educational resource, aiding schools, researchers, language enthusiasts, and even tourists in connecting with Himachal's vibrant linguistic heritage.
Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur praised this initiative, describing it as a pivotal project for the preservation of language. He remarked, “This dictionary will significantly contribute to the promotion of the Pahari language, not only within India but also on global platforms. Dr. Koundal and the HIM TV Media team deserve commendation for this remarkable endeavor.”
