Khelo India University Games 2025 Set for Jaipur: A Platform for Young Athletes

Khelo India University Games 2025 Announcement
The Khelo India University Games 2025 will be co-hosted by Poornima University and Rajasthan University in Jaipur this November, as announced on Wednesday. This marks the fifth edition of the Khelo India University Games, which first launched in February 2020.
Anticipating participation from over 4,000 athletes representing more than 200 universities, the multi-sport event will feature at least 20 disciplines. In the previous edition, KIUG 2024, Chandigarh University emerged victorious in the team championships, which were held across multiple states including Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Mansukh Mandaviya expressed his excitement, stating, “I am thrilled to announce that the Khelo India Youth Games will be hosted in Rajasthan in November 2025. These Games cater to athletes under 25 and will follow the under-18 Khelo India Youth Games held in Bihar earlier this May. This event provides a significant opportunity for athletes to showcase their talents to scouts looking for the best in the nation.”
During KIUG 2024, eight records were established in athletics, with five set by male competitors. Mandaviya noted, “Globally, university students excel in multi-sport competitions. We are optimistic about witnessing outstanding performances in Rajasthan, as we expect the athletes to be in peak condition.”
At the 11-day KIUG 2024, which took place in North-east India for the first time, a total of 770 medals were awarded, including 240 gold, 240 silver, and 290 bronze. Approximately 4,500 athletes from over 200 universities competed across 20 sports.
Utkal University's Pratyasa Ray was the standout female athlete, securing four golds, one silver, and one bronze. The title of the most successful male athlete went to Xavier Michael Dsouza from Jain University, who also won four gold medals. Lovely Professional University finished second with a total of 42 medals, while Guru Nanak Dev University from Amritsar took third place with 51 medals.
